The East End Jewish Community Council was formed to unite Jews, synagogues and organizations on Eastern Long Island for mutual benefit, to serve as one voice representing the local Jewish community.

Each year, the East End Jewish Community Council sponsors programs and events to enrich our Jewish community experience on Eastern Long Island. We have presented programs such as:

  • Anti-bias crimes
  • Birthright Israel, Stand With Us
  • The EEJCC annual Holocaust remembrance
  • Jewish genealogy, Jewish studies and Kaballah
  • Yiddish film, and Israeli festival
  • Offering discounted plots in the United Synagogue Cemetery located in Calverton
  • Taking political actions against anti-Semitism on the East End of Long Island
  • Participating in the annual Israeli Independence Day Parade
  • Annual Rabbis and Lay Leaders’ Dinner which is open to all members
  • Research for various programs, bills and grants to religious establishments from the Governor’s office of NYC
  • We also work closely with local synagogues to promote their programs and increase their membership.

Stronger Together

Our Goal

It is our goal to encourage mutual understanding and respect among people of all faiths and beliefs. We endeavor to enrich the cultural and religious experiences of all Jews, and we seek to explain Jewish culture and practices to all, in order to improve the communal, cultural, educational, religious and social welfare of people everywhere.

It is the mission of the East End Jewish Community Council to serve as an advocate for the needs of the Jewish communities on the East End of Long Island, and to support and further efforts to promote Jewish identity and continuity. Toward these ends, we seek to support and strengthen opportunities for lay leadership and rabbis to meet and address local Jewish and community needs and issues.

The Council works with both member and non-member synagogues to promote their functions, programs and activities, and to expand their memberships.

Rabbi Gadi Capela

President

Rabbi Gadi Capela is the rabbi of Congregation Tifereth Israel in Greenport on the North Fork of Long Island since his ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2012. He is also the President of the East End Jewish Community Council. Rabbi Gadi was born and raised in Israel and moved to New York in 1995 after completing a four-year military service as a lieutenant in a rescue unit.
